I've got LOTS of in person events coming up, including an evening Maker's Market in downtown Hillsborough THIS FRIDAY, complete with twinkle lights, hayrides, with close proximity to great food and drinks.
I've also got a brand new "River Otter" mini print to share with you just in time for the holidays, plus I'll talk wallpaper, and show you how I pull my Luna moth prints. I hope you love this sneak peek into my studio!

I just carved this sweet little otter! I'm giving my email subscribers the first chance to buy the print, titled "River Otter," before I make it available for sale to the general public (on Thursday, October 28th.) This will give y'all dibs on
the lowest numbered prints in the edition.* I'll be reserving prints in the order that folks email me-- so if you want to snag the first print from this block, click here now! :)
* Limited Edition of 70 Prints. Cost: $29, Size: 8x10 (matboard included)

A project I've been working on for over a year has come to fruition, and I'm so excited about it. When the Mayton Inn in downtown Cary
approached me about designing the wallpaper for their new dining and bar space, I jumped at the opportunity. As y'all know, I am passionate about place-based design. I think went into that first design meeting with a list of 50 different native species we could use as design elements. While I couldn't QUITE sell them on including possums in the wallpaper I DID manage to include some carnivorous pitcher plants, so I'm feeling really good about that :).
The theme that we came up with was the convergence of the NC Piedmont and Coastal plain. Here's what the Indy Week had to say about it:
"The restaurant’s crown jewel is its botanical wallpaper, which poses cardinals and turtle doves against a tangled backdrop of native North Carolina plants. The wallpaper, designed by Hillsborough artist Katie Hayes and produced by the Durham-based company Spoonflower, stands alongside a number of pieces that The Mayton commissioned from area artists."
Get the look: This wallpaper is available for sale from Spoonflower, a fantastic company based in Durham, NC that is known for its environmentally friendly wallpapers and textiles, and also for paying workers a living wage with benefits. Here is a link to all the size and color options I created for the Mayton/Spoonflower collaboration.

I often find myself telling folks that I meet at art shows about my Luna Moth print, and the techniques I use to create the vibrant colors. I made y'all a video of me inking a print. I repeat this process for each print I pull. It's a time intensive process- but I love the results!
The free shipping and local pickup options I instituted last month are working out well, so I'm going to continue that at least through November. Hopefully this will help shield y'all against increased shipping costs. As the holiday's approach, I'm anticipating mail slow
downs, so if you do live locally and are able to come see me at in person events, that would be helpful. If you can't make it to an event, but want to schedule a shopping appointment, email me and we'll set something up!
I am so grateful for the support y'all give me. You're the best!
