Did the Cicadas emerge at your house this summer? They missed us here in Hillsborough, but I got to experience a Cicada emergence a few years ago and it was totally unreal.   I understand why some folks are creeped out by them but honestly-- I'm a weirdo and I love them :).   I think this mini print would make a great gift for the folks in your life who-- like me-- are totally fascinated by these long living insects. We took our kids to the beach this past weekend, and I was reminded of exactly how much I love Pelicans.  To see the lines of the Brown Pelicans soaring along the beach was extra heartening when I think that they were almost wiped out.  If you've never heard the amazing comeback story of the Brown Pelican, check out this article for more information.  Shop the full color print. I was starting to get worried because we hadn't seen any eastern box turtles this year. I just love these colorful land dwellers. Then, with a stroke of luck we encountered several in one week! Look how beautiful this one is! I'm way overdue to create a box turtle print, so email me your favorite box turtle photos for inspiration! 

Patchwork Market- August 8th from noon-5pm. Patchwork market is back!  This is my first time participating in this beloved Durham maker's market. See their website for information about this event.  

Backyard Art Show, August 22nd 10-3. I'm teaming up with two of my favorite local artists, David Roswell Pottery and October Forever for an outdoor show at David's home studio in Durham.  Expect a relaxed atmosphere, snacks, cold beers, and great artwork.  You don't need to register in advance, but we are trying to keep a pulse on how many folks are interested in order to provide refreshments, so if you can indicate your interest on this facebook event, that would be fantastic.

New South Pattern House is making news!  I was lucky enough to get some great press this month.  First, as a guest on WHUP's local news show, and then with this great article in the News of Orange on my printmaking business. I am so excited about the way my community has embraced me as I work towards my creative and professional goals.  

Proud mamma moment here-- my daughter carved her first block print this month!  One of the questions I get asked most often is if I teach classes.  The answer is "no--not at the moment"-- but it may be something I'll add in the future.  I'll keep y'all posted if I decide to open the studio in a more formal way. In the meantime, I'll soak in these proud moments with my kids.
