Above: This photo of a Monarch Butterfly caterpillar was taken yesterday in my yard in Hillsborough, NC. It's been amazing to see how many of my clients are also growing milkweed in order to support our monarch populations!

It's a month of anniversaries here at New South Pattern House!

This September, here are the milestones I'm celebrating:

1 year since my carving the American Red Wolf- I'll update y'all on how much money we've raised and unveil the newest colorway from this carving.
50 years of the CenterFest Arts festival in downtown Durham- I was lucky enough to be involved with this celebration! I'll give y'all the scoop below.
1 full year on staff for Lindsay- Shoutout to our awesome studio manager, Lindsay McKelvey for a full year of Katie wrangling :)

What's New: Red Wolf, 4th Edition

This newest edition -- "Red Wolf at Alligator River, Full Color" is the trickiest inkwork I've ever attempted. After this, there is only one more colorway left before the block is retired.

It's officially been a year since I debuted my largest block print ever-- the American Red Wolf at Alligator River. To date, we've raised $4,161 for red wolf conservation.

Each colorway I make from this massive linoleum carving only has 17 prints in the edition-- because on the day I finished carving it, there were only 17 Red Wolves remaining in the wild. One year later, there's good news on that front as well-- at least 16 red wolf pups were born in the wild in 2025. Here locally, we all fell in love with the 3 pups born at the Museum of Life and Science.

Centerfest 50th Anniversary

This spring, I was delighted to be contacted by the Durham Arts Council, the organization that hosts one of my favorite Art Festivals-- CenterFest in downtown Durham. This year is the 50th anniversary of CenterFest, and they asked me to design a special limited edition t-shirt to honor this milestone.

I was quick to say yes to this project because CenterFest is consistently one of my best weekends of the year- both in terms of sales and in terms of interactions with awesome humans.

Celebrating 1 year of Lindsay!

Speaking of awesome humans, this month also marks an important marker for NSPH, one full year with Lindsay on staff. Lindsay and I have been friends for years, and I'm always grateful for her cheerfulness and collaborative spirit. With her on board, I've been able to grow the studio assistant position into the more professional role of studio manager, with her taking on more behind-the-scenes details that keep the business running, so that I can focus on making art. Lindsay is also a talented artist in her own right, and you can expect to hear me bragging on her more as she enters the world of art-based entrepreneurship.
