OPEN STUDIO starts this weekend! I'm gearing up for my biggest event of the year, the OCAG
Open Studio Tour. Read on for all the details you need to know such as "where can I park?" "when will you be pulling prints? " and "when will you open the wine?" I'll be trying something new this year-- doing a print launch at the event itself. I've got a beautiful set of Sandhill Cranes that
I've carved up, and I'll be unveiling them this weekend. I'll have a few for sale, and I'll also be incorporating them into my live demos.
Above: The first of my two sandhill crane pieces. I'll have the set available this weekend!

Above: A photo from last year's Open Studio. I'll set up my porch as a print shop, staffed my my assistant, and I'll generally be upstairs, showing visitors around my space. You May Be Asking:
What is this event? I'm opening up my studio, along with about 100 other artists in Orange County, as part of the Orange County Artist Guild's Annual Studio tour. To see a complete list of all the participating artists, click here. They also have a really good interactive map you can use to plan your trip. I'm at spot #2 on the map. When is this
event? Dates: November 2nd, 3rd, and 9th, 10th. 2024 Hours: 10-5 on Saturdays and Noon to 5 on Sundays. Address: 2405 Mandy Lane, Hillsborough, NC 27278 Parking/Directions My house is located at 2405 Mandy Lane, Hillsborough, NC. It's a white house on the corner of Mandy Lane and Ericka Drive, with a gravel driveway. You can pull off to the side of my driveway to park, or-- if those spots are all full, you can park along the side of the road in front of the house. Once you park, you can walk around the left side of the main house (your left if you're walking in from the street) and use my studio entrance, which will take you across a flagstone path and up a short flight of steps onto the back deck.
Above: I'll do a live printmaking demonstration each day of the tour at 2:00. I'll share about my colorwork techniques, my equipment, inks, and papers.
MORE FAQ Are children allowed? Yes! Absolutely. I'll have some toys/craft
supplies out to help keep them occupied, but please be responsible for watching them because I do have sharp tools in my workspace. Are there any parts of your house that will be closed? Yes! I have two young children and want to respect their privacy. Except for use as a bathroom, I'd like for us to
avoid the main house and stick to the studio (It's a detached building) and the adjacent deck. Is your studio wheelchair accessible? Unfortunately, no. My main workspace is on the second story, and most of the shopping will take place in a 1st floor covered area on my porch. Both locations have
small sets of stairs. Are you located near any of the other artists on the tour? Yes! Artist Anita Mills (#1 on the tour
brochure) also lives in my neighborhood, which is called Cascades, so I encourage y'all to check out her work while you are visiting. What can I expect to do at your studio? You'll be able to see my workspace, shop for artwork, and ask me questions about my process. I'll do a printmaking demonstration
each day at 2:00. In addition to my normal block print offerings, this year I'm been working on some really beautiful stationery-- small fliptop notebooks and pattern notecards based on some of my wallpaper designs. What if I'm not local? If you don't live locally or can't make it to the tour, don't worry-- I still love y'all. I'll keep on sharing my process with you on instagram and you tube, and I've also got some new print releases planned for the next few months. If you want to snag a set of Cranes, just email me, and send you the link once they're posted on the website. If you have any questions about the studio tour, please feel free to contact me!
This is my large format printmaking press-- Shirley. She's a new addition to my studio this year, and I'm excited to show her off to this year's visitors.
I'll have some of my red wolf block prints for visitors to see and buy. Each print sold raises $100 for Red Wolf Conservation.

NEW FACE AT NEW SOUTH: Meet Lindsay
You may see a new face behind the register at our shows this fall. My friend Lindsay has joined the team to help get me through the holiday rush, and know y'all will love working with her as much as I do. An interior designer by trade, Lindsay is a great person to ask about color combinations, or brainstorm the perfect block print for that one
spot in your house. If you see her, please give her a big welcome!
As I look towards the next few weekends, I'm feeling so excited. I can't wait to welcome y'all into my work space, and as we look to the holidays, I feel thrilled about what I've got in store for your gifting needs. Thank you for letting me be a part of your
homes. I appreciate you! Katie
