What's New: Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
This 18x24 Print features an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly, set among some of my favorite native wildflowers, Coreopsis, Eastern Columbine, and Virginia Bluebells.
Full Color Edition of 70 Prints
The full color edition of this print was really time intensive to ink-- For the first print run, I worked for two days and was rewarded with 9 bold and beautiful prints ready for this month's preorders. They aren't perfect-- a few of the carving lines in the red ink made its way into the final prints, but I'm still really proud of
these pieces. I plan to make it an edition of 70 prints total.
I also am making a black and white edition, of 10 prints. I'm enjoying the negative space and composition of this piece, and I think it really shines in the black and white edition. I currently have 6 of these in stock.
Black and White Edition of 10 Prints
I'm giving my email subscribers the first chance to preorder these swallowtail prints before I bring them to my markets this month. I'll be reserving prints in the order that folks email me, so click below and let me know if you want to snag one! "Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Full Color"-Limited edition of 70 prints. Wallpaper Samples are HERE!
For the past 5 years or so, I've basically been running two businesses-- NSPH, where I sell hand pressed block prints, and a parallel business where I design wallpaper and patterns for products like textiles and stationery. Since I can't produce wallpaper in my home studio, I've used Spoonflower as a production partner, and directed folks to their
site to purchase. As the popularity of wallpaper increases, I'm fielding tons of questions about this from my New South clients, and I'm feeling the need to merge these two creative endeavors, and provide more structure for folks looking to order wallpaper. So, Starting this week, you'll be able to order SAMPLES of some of my best selling wallpaper patterns directly from the New South Pattern House Website! I'll have SF ship you a physical sample, and I'll also email you a "getting started" guide on how to order.
In the Studio: BIG Press is coming soon!
For a few years now, I've felt called to make big prints. Like, REALLY big ones. Last year, I convinced myself that I needed to focus instead on small work, but honestly, the itch to try my
hand at large scale printmaking just hasn't gone away. So earlier this month, I hopped on the phone with Conrad Machine Company, and ordered a large printmaking press. This thing is going to be a GIANT, with a 27x48 inch press bed. They are still building my actual press, but here's an idea of what it will look like:
The press is still in production, but it will be here within 2-4 months. When it arrives, of course I'll walk y'all through the set up, and I'll probably need y'alls help coming up with a fun name for it. So what does this mean for my studio? Well first of all, I'm going to have to find somewhere else to put our guest bed! :) It also means that I'll be carving more in firmer, traditional linoleum this year, (since it's available in large rolls). I'll likely have a learning curve as I adapt my colorwork techniques to a larger scale, and may
need to start out in more monochromatic editions as I learn the ropes. It's going to take some time, but my goal is to have at least one really magnificent, super detailed ecosystem inspired print by the end of the year. I'm so excited about this press-- it's a big investment in my future as a printmaker, and I think it's
going to open up a whole new world of printmaking possibilities for me!
I know I say this every newsletter, but I really am just so grateful to each of you. Getting the chance to make my living as an artist is such an honor, and I couldn't do it without folks like you. Thank you for letting my work be part of your homes. Best Wishes, Katie
