I'm super proud to show
you what I've been working on in the studio this month (hint, it's a beautiful native predator!) I've also got some new spring shows added, an awesome artist feature that (I hope!) will make me look cool in front of my kids, and few mother's day picks to help y'all out with gifting next month. I can't wait to tell you all about it. -Katie Katie Hayes Printmaker New South Pattern House

What's New: JUMBO Gray Fox in the Ironweed |
I've been obsessing over our native predators lately, and Urocyon Cinereoargenteus has got to be one of the prettiest. The Gray fox is actually our only native fox species (the red fox was brought over from Europe.) I love how its coat transitions from rust to silver and black. I knew it would be a challenge to ink it up (and it was!) but it turned out to be well
worth the effort. This large print, "Gray Fox in the Ironweed" depicts a native gray fox in a meadow of ironweed and asters, with a brown thrasher foraging at its feet.
I wanted to create something large enough to hang as a statement piece above a couch, bed, or in a dining room. This hand carved block is cut into 10 pieces, hand inked separately and pieced together for each print pull. It comes with a custom, acid free matboard that fits into a standard 18x24 inch frame. Limited edition of 80 prints. I'm giving my email subscribers the first chance to buy these prints before I make them available for sale to the general public (on Thursday, April 20th.) I'll be reserving prints in the order that folks email me, so let me know if you'd like to pre-order one! "Gray Fox in the Ironweed"-Limited edition of 80 prints. Cost: $135 Size, 18x24. *sizes include
custom, acid free matboard. Here's an example of this piece with a simple black frame. The NSPH crew will be at the following upcoming events: New South Pattern House Intern, Dhara at the 2022 OCAG open Studio Tour April 22nd-Durham Craft Market, Durham, NC.

In the wild: Katie at the Durham Bulls Stadium Y’ALL. Guess whose work is featured at the Durham bulls ball park this year!? As you may know, in addition to block prints I have a large library of wallpaper designs, which are produced and sold through the awesome Durham based company, Spoonflower. This year, Spoonflower highlighted my work with this display at the Durham Bulls Stadium. I’m so grateful to Spoonflower and the Bulls for this opportunity. Not only are
they supporting local artists, but they are making me look cool in front of my kids, and I can't stress enough how important that is to me. :) Thanks to my friend Emily for snagging this picture for me! Thanks for supporting my small business. it means so much to me, and my family. I can't wait to see many of you in person at shows this year! -Katie |
