I've got a new print release to share with you today, so read on to hear all about my freshly carved "Yellow Lady's Slipper" print, and to pre-order yours before it goes live (this Saturday!)
With Mother's Day coming up, I've also curated a list of Block Prints for you that remind me of my own Mamma, Penny. You can get 10% off of any of the prints in this
collection if you use the code MAMMA2022 at checkout. In the gift guide below, I'll tell you why I chose some of these particular prints, and talk about the influence my own mom had on my artwork.
Finally, my spring/summer event schedule is really coming together, so check in below to see where I'll be, and come see me!

Mother's Day Gifts for the Woodland Mamma:
This is my mom, Penny. She's the toughest lady I've ever met, and she also taught me nearly everything I know about the flora and fauna of our region. Growing up in Cullowhee, NC, my mom would take us out into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park nearly every weekend, where we would eat trail mix, look for interesting wildlife, and learn all the major cuss words :).
She taught us to build campfires in the rain, and look for salamanders in the creek. She can be a hard person to shop for, as the "standard" gifts people think of for mom's aren't really her thing. Below, I've highlighted a few prints that are great gifts for moms like mine, and I share with you the special connection I feel each piece has to my own mom. (See the whole collection here.)

Size: 13x19 (size includes acid free matboard)
Cost: $109.00
Why I chose this:
My mom loved to get in the creek with us and search for crawdads, salamanders, and snails. She taught me to look deeply at even a seemingly empty pool, and to notice all the small things living there. This skill is invaluable to me as an artist.
|
|
Size: 16x16 (size includes acid free matboard)
Cost: $85.00
Why I chose this:
My mom would take us camping at Unicoi State park when we were little girls, and I have vivid memories of Luna Moths hanging on the campsite bathhouse. As an adult, they are still just as magical to me now as they were when I was a kid.
|
|
Size: 12x12 (size includes acid free matboard)
Cost: $42.00
Why I chose this:
I was an extremely ADHD child, the world was not always set up for me, but my mom saw my neuroatypical brain as "fertile ground" and created an environment for me where I could channel my energy, deeply develop my creativity, and see my differences as a major advantage.
|
|
Size: 8x10 (size includes acid free matboard)
Cost: $29.00
Why I chose this:
From a very young age, I loved to find Cicada exoskeletons hanging from tree trunks. Each time I found one, I would bring it to my mom, and she would treat it like a major scientific discovery :) My mom instilled in me a love of the
"unlovable" creatures-- the bugs, and crustaceans, and reptiles. This still comes through in my work today.

I hope these picks are useful to you as you shop for your own woodland mammas this Mother's Day. Remember to use the code MAMMA2022 at checkout for 10% any print from this collection.

Is it just me, or are the spring wildflowers ESPECIALLY beautiful this year? Everywhere I look, I just want to freeze time, and capture as much inspiration as possible for
future block prints. Here are a few of the wildflowers I'm seeing right now, and finding special beauty in: Eastern Columbine, Atamasco Lily, Rue Anemone, Spring Beauty, Bleeding Heart, Jack and the Pulpit, Allegheny Foamflower, Dwarf Crested Iris, and Bloodroot.
In the Studio: New Space!
When I started New South Pattern House in the Winter of 2019, my studio was in a small room adjacent to my kitchen. Over the past few years, my business has grown, and we've just
renovated a larger space to accomadate me, and future employees. I'm fully moved into this space now, and I'm loving the productivity it's allowing. I have dedicated spaces for pulling prints, packing orders, and product photography, and I'm saving so much time by not trying to use the same folding table for every task. Even better, my family is thrilled we don't have prints drying above the cars in the garage all the time anymore. :) I'm looking forward to hosting Open Studio events here later
on in 2022!
As always, thank you for supporting my work. I am so lucky to have clients that I genuinely like, and that find meaning in the subject matter that inspires me. Thank you so much!
